No. 9 Baylor Bears pull away to hand Nicholls 103-70 defeat Tuesday night in Waco

The Nicholls men’s basketball team hung with No. 9 Baylor, trailing 15-13 at one point before the Bears pulled away for a 103-70 win over the Colonels on Tuesday night in Waco, Texas.

Nicholls fell to 3-5 on the season with the loss.

A 3-pointer by Rob Brown, three Brown free throws, two jumpers by Jamal West, and a fast break basket by Byron Ireland kept Nicholls in the game early.

A jumper by West made it 15-13 at the 11:21 mark of the first half, but Baylor went on to outscore the Colonels 35-12 the rest of the way to take a 50-25 lead. The 25-point halftime margin equaled the biggest lead of the half for the Bears.

Baylor (7-0) topped the 100-point mark on a basket by Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua for a 101-63 lead with 2:30 left in the game.

The Bears’ biggest lead of the game was 41 points on a 2-pointer by Austin Sacks with 22 seconds left in the game before Jalen White countered with a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in the game to account for the 103-70 final.

Brown led Nicholls in scoring with 17 points. Micah Thomas added 16, West 15, and Ireland 11. Mekhi Collins led the Colonels in rebounds with 6.

Nicholl was 24 of 64 (37.5 percent) from the field, and 8 of 25 (32 percent) from 3-point range. The Colonels had no second-chance points in the game.

Langston Love paced Baylor with 23 points. Ray Dennis contributed 14, Jayden Nunn 13, and Caleb Lohner 12. Yves Missi and Tchamwa Tchatchoua each had seven rebounds.

The Bears were 38 of 67 (56.7 percent) from the field, and 14 of 23 (60.9 percent) from 3-point range.

Baylor scored 15 points off turnovers and had 62 bench points, and 42 points in the paint.
