Nicholls women’s tennis team falls at home to Alabama-Birmingham

The Nicholls women’s tennis team fell 0-7 to the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Tuesday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.

In singles play, Lui QianYu of Nicholls, playing on Court 1, fell to Adela Wasserbauerova, 3-6, 1-6.

In other singles play, Carla Bouygues fell to Klara Kajabova (2-6, 4-6); Sophia Safarova lost to Mackenzie White (3-6, 2-6); Lea Grinberg lost to Sydney Clarke (6-1, 1-6, 0-6); Aada Inna lost to Vanessa Mellynchuk (0-6, 1-6) and Noemie Piquet lost to Enya Ratkic (0-6, 6-3, 10-12).

UAB (9-8) took the point in doubles play with two wins.

The Nicholls team of Constanza Cruz and Bouygues lost to Wasserbauerova and Clarke, 0-6, and the duo of Safarova and Dareen Hassan lost to Kajabova and Maggie White, 1-6.

The loss dropped the Nicholls women’s team to 6-3 on the season.

The Nicholls men will make their Southland Conference debut when the Colonels play at the University of New Orleans at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Nicholls’ women’s team will be back in action when they Lamar on March 19 in Lafayette.
