Nicholls men’s tennis team drops Southland Conference open against UNO Privateers

The Nicholls men’s tennis team dropped its Southland Conference opener Wednesday afternoon, falling 5-2 on the road at the University of New Orleans.

The conference-opening loss dropped Nicholls to 6-4 overall.

The two wins for Nicholls came in singles play.

On Court 5, Prasanna Pravin Bagade of Nicholls defeated Marc Mail, 6-3, 6-4.

The other Nicholls winner was Kotaro Matsumura on Court 6 with a 4-6, 7-6, 11-9, win over Joseph Townes.

In other singles matches, on Court 1, Nicholls’ Omar Morsy lost to Marcel Volz, 4-6, 5-7; Harry Collins lost to Luke Joujan, 6-7, 2-6; Danail Banov lost to Matthew Armbruster, 1-6, 6-7; and Antonio Sasso fell to Sergi Tintore, 1-6, 0-6.

UNO won two of the doubles matches to gain the point from doubles play.

The Nicholls team of Collins and Matsumura lost to Volz and Joujan, 2-6. The Colonel duo of Banov and Pravin Bagade fell to Armbrister and Tintore, 3-6.

Nicholls will have a 10-day break before taking on the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio on March 23.
