The Nicholls women’s tennis team won in doubles play but could only come away with one victory in singles action in falling 5-2 to Southeastern Louisiana University in a Southland Conference match Friday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
Nicholls dropped to 0-6 in the SLC and 6-11 overall. Southeastern Louisiana moved to 2-4 in the conference and 9-10 overall.
The Nicholls No. 2 doubles team of Aada Inna and Sophia Sara Safarova defeated the Southeastern Louisiana duo of Alba Perez and Taisia Bolsova, 6-1.
Noemie Piquet and Lea Grinberg, the No. 3 doubles team from Nicholls beat the SLU twosome of Bogi Csordas and Panatchakorn Suanarsa, 6-2, to earn the point from doubles play.
The match at No. 1 doubles between Nicholls’ Carla Bouygues and Constanza Cruz versus SLU duo of Bente Bierma and Leana Gomez went unfinished.
In singles play, the only win for the Lady Colonels came on Court 5 when Cruz defeated Suanarsa, 6-2, 6-4.
After Nicholls took the lead via doubles play, Southeastern tied the match Gomez defeated Bouygues, 6-2, 6-0.
The Lady Lions pulled ahead for good when Bierma defeated Grinberg via a win by opponent retirement on Court 3.
On Court 2, Kate Oborina defeated Sophia Sara Safarova, also by opponent retirement.
After Cruz defeated Suanarsa, the Lady Lions clinched the match on Court 4 when Claudia Di Leonardo beat Inna in three sets, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.
In the final match, Bolsova defeated Piquet, 6-0, 1-6. 6-3.
Nicholls will be back in action at 11 a.m. Monday when the Lady Colonels host Northwestern State.
