Season for Nicholls men’s tennis team comes to an end with loss to second-seeded NJIT

The Nicholls men’s tennis season came to an end in the opening round of the Southland Conference Championship with a 4-0 loss to affiliate member New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Nicholls, the No. 7 seed, dropped the doubles match and then lost the first three decisions of singles play to fall the second-seeded Highlanders on Thursday night at the McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio.

The No. 2 Nicholls tennis team of Ammar Fekery and Antonio Sasso lost to NJIT’s Os Callo von Platen and Nejc Skorjanc, 3-6.

Nicholls’ No. 3 team of Harry Collins and Katora Matsumura lost to the Highlanders’ duo of German Lopez Andujar and Pavel Petrov, 4-6, giving the point from doubles play to NJIT.

In the first singles match to be decided, Sasso fell to von Platen, 4-6, 1-6 on Court 5 to put NJIT up 2-0.

On Court 1, Omar Morsy lost to Pablo Perez Ramos, 1-6, 4-6.

Danail Banov fell on Court 4 to Petrov, 2-6, 2-6, clinching the match for NJIT.

Nicholls, which entered the conference tournament on a seven-game winning streak, ended its season at 12-7.

NJIT advances to face the University of New Orleans at 6 p.m. Friday.
