The Nicholls women’s tennis team saw its season come to an end with a loss in the second round of the Southland Conference tournament Friday afternoon at the McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio.
Nicholls was eliminated by second-seeded McNeese State, 4-0.
The Lady Colonels, the No. 10 seed, advanced in the tournament by upsetting No. 7 seed Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday.
McNeese won in doubles play on Friday to gain the early momentum.
The Nicholls No. 3 doubles team of Betija Dusele and Dareen Hassan, lost to the McNeese duo Ai Domingo-Bernabeu and Tiana Fox, 1-6.
McNeese clinched the point from doubles play when the No. 1 team for Nicholls, Carla Bouygues and Constanza Cruz fell to the Cowgirls’ duo of Anastasija Adeikyte and Arina Gamretkaia, 2-6.
In the first final from singles play, Nicholls’ Adda Inna, on Court 4, fell to McNeese’s Emma-Lou Pommiers, 2-6, 1-6.
Cruz fell to Ari Monlleo Sanchis, 2-6, 4-6, on Court 6.
The Cowgirls clinched the match on Court 3 when Lea Grinberg lost to Maria Wang Martinez, 1-6, 3-6.
In all the remaining unfinished matches, Nicholls players won the first set.
Nicholls ended its season at 7-14.
