LSU Tigers play long ball with five home runs on the way to a 9-0 win over Nicholls

The LSU Tigers played long ball against Nicholls on Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

LSU hit five home runs, including two by Tommy White, to power the Tigers to a 9-0 win over the Colonels.

Three different LSU players hit leadoff home runs to open innings. The third, by Tommy White in the seventh inning, was followed by another solo shot by Jared Jones. White finished off the power surge with a three-run homer in the eighth inning.

Meanwhile, Nicholls never threatened in the game as five LSU pitchers limited the Colonels to three hits. The visitors from Thibodaux never got a runner past second base in the game.

The loss dropped Nicholls to 27-15 while LSU moved to 26-16.

Pearson broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning on a leadoff home run off of Nicholls starter Devin Desandro.

After a Hayden Travinski fly out, Michael Braswell doubled down the third base line. Desandro walked Steven Milam and was replaced on the mound by Dallis Moran.

Moran struck out Alex Milazzo before walking Paxton Kling and Ashton White to force in a run for a 2-0 LSU lead. A wild pitch with White at the plate allowed another run to score to put the Tigers up 3-0.

A leadoff home run by Alex Milam made it 4-0.

The back-to-back blasts by White and Jones in the seventh inning extended the LSU lead to 6-0.

White’s home run with two men on base in the eighth inning accounted for the 9-0 final.

Nicholls had runners reach as far as second base in only innings.

The first occasion came in the second inning. A single by Brayden Kuriger and walk by Narvin Booker put runners on second and first with two outs. LSU starter Kade Anderson struck out Kaden Amundson to end the inning.

The final time came in the top of the ninth. Basiel Williams walked to open the inning. After Garrett Felix struck out, Williams advanced to second when Crosby struck out.

Thatcher Hurd, working the ninth inning as the last of five LSU pitchers, got his third strikeout of the inning when he fanned Kuriger to end the game.

Desandro (4-4) suffered the loss. He allowed three runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out three in 3 1/3 innings.

Kade Anderson (4-1) worked the first four innings for Tigers and got the win, allowing two hits and two walks, while striking out two.

The Colonels are back in action when they travel to Ruston to take on Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
