Nicholls men’s tennis team makes it three-in-a-row with dominating win at Alcorn State

The Nicholls men’s tennis team captured their third straight match with a 7-0 win Thursday afternoon against Alcorn State in Lorman, Miss.

It was the second time for the Colonels to defeat Alcorn in dominating fashion. Earlier in the season, Nicholls defeated the Braves 6-1 in Thibodaux.

The Colonels moved to 9-6 overall with the win, while Alcorn dropped to 4-11.

A scheduled match between the Nicholls and Alcorn women’s teams was canceled. The Nicholls women host Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m. Friday.

Nicholls started off by gaining the point from doubles play.

With a forfeit win at No. 3, the Nicholls No. 1 team of Omar Morsy and Quintin Lamothe defeated the Alcorn duo of Nikola Kijac and Emmanuel Cottle, 6-1 to secure doubles play for the Colonels.

The No. 2 Nicholls team of Kotaro Matsumura and Harry Collins lost to Alcorn’s Luke Andonov and David Leon, 3-6.

Nicholls also won all six singles matches, including No. 6 by default.

Matsumura defeated Noah Kiani, 6-0, 6-0 on Court 5.

On Court 1, Morsy beat Morsy beat Kijac, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the match for the Colonels.

In other singles matches, it was Danail Banov of Nicholls over Luke Andonov (6-2, 6-3); Lamothe over Cottle (7-6, 6-3); and Antonio Sasso over Leon (7-5, 7-6).

The Colonels will have a one-week break before returning to action at Southern University in Baton Rouge on April 11.
